summary: the coup d'état of 1934 marked the beginning of the so-called silent era in the young estonian republic. the authoritarian head of state, konstantin päts, took firm control over the country's policies, including that of architecture. during 1935-1939 all projects in central tallinn were approved or disapproved by päts personally. this short period of prosperity changed tallinn's appearance drastically: tons of wooden shacks in town central were replaced by respectable brick buildings, as was appropriate for a country's capital. this documentary from 1939 titled "tallinn before and now" demonstrates these changes which were unfortunately left unfinished due to the upcoming war.

veits propagandamaiguline dokumentaalfilm aastast 1939, mis demonstreerib riigipea konstantin pätsu teeneid tallinna kesklinna arengule kolmekümnendate teisel poolel. ma pikemalt jahuma ei hakka, kuivõrd teemast saab kena ülevaate siit artiklist. soovitan lugeda.
